When Terminator Salvation is released May 27 in international territories by Sony Pictures Releasing International, the film will be supported by a collaborator on-screen and off. Belstaff is delighted to have teamed with the filmmakers to help bring their vision of the future to the big screen, and the company will support the release with a broad program.
Terminator Salvation is set in post-apocalyptic 2018, where John Connor (Christian Bale) is the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future that Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares the final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet’s operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind.
For over 85 years, since its founding in the English Midlands, Belstaff designs have been at the forefront of fashion. These cutting-edge designs have stood the test of time – and the company’s logo, a phoenix rising, was selected to symbolize continuity through both good times and bad. So, when Terminator costume designer Michael Kaplan wanted garments that would last for generations, he turned to Belstaff.
Belstaff supplied the “Centaur Jacket” for Sam Worthington’s character Marcus Wright, who has to endure some of the harshest conditions in the film. It is an ergonomic version of the legendary Belstaff three-quarter length jacket in vintage leather with patented Elastoseam seams offering enhanced comfort under the most extreme conditions.
The Centaur jacket is also worn by resistance fighter Blair Williams, played by Moon Bloodgood. For John Connor’s wife Kate, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, a jacket was needed that would reflect not only her strong character but also her femininity. Belstaff provided the traditional but also innovative Toxic Blouson, the perfect choice for her. Both the Belstaff Centaur Jacket and the Toxic Blouson are available from
shop.belstaff.com, which will also feature Terminator Salvation branding and the film’s trailer.
In addition, during the film’s release, Belstaff is teaming with SPRI to run Terminator Salvation-themed activity across the UK, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Russia, Japan and Hong Kong. Key territories will have Terminator-themed window displays and POS in flagship Belstaff stores (London, Manchester, Milan, Florence, Rome, Treviso, Bologna and Madrid). There will also be Terminator themed displays and POS in selected concession stores like Harrods in the UK, all supported by a print advertising campaign in selected territories.
Manuele Malenotti, creative director of Belstaff, said, “Belstaff are delighted to partner with Sony Pictures Releasing International on the forthcoming release of Terminator Salvation to help promote the movie and bring the directors vision to cinema audiences across the world. From the moment we were approached by the costume designer to help create the look of the principle characters, we knew our garments were the perfect look for the movie. Our classic shapes, made from the most durable fabrics are designed to stand the test of time. It is very plausible that Belstaff would have been still around even after all that had happened.”
Zachary Eller, vice president, Marketing, Sony Pictures Releasing International, said, “Not only are Belstaff’s creative designs perfect for the film – their international reach through their flagship stores in XX countries make them an ideal partner for this release. We’re thrilled to be working with them.”
Terminator Salvation is directed by McG, from a screenplay by Michael Ferris and John Brancato. The film is produced by Moritz Borman, Derek Anderson, Victor Kubicek and Jeffrey Silver, and executive produced by Peter D. Graves, Bahman Naraghi, Mario F. Kassar, Andrew G. Vajna, Joel B. Michaels, Dan Lin and Jeanne Allgood.
Terminator Salvation will be released in the U.S. on May 21, 2009 by Warner Bros. Pictures. Sony Pictures Releasing International is distributing the film in most international territories between May 27, 2009 and June 13, 2009.
