BELSTAFF ADDS ITALIAN STYLE TO NINE
Once again Belstaff is back on the big screen, this time adding Italian
style to “Nine”, the incredible new movie from acclaimed director Rob
Marshall and multi-award winning producer Harvey Weinstein.
Nine is a vibrant and provocative musical that follows the life of world
famous film director Guido Contini (Daniel Day-Lewis) as he reaches a
creative and personal crisis of epic proportion, while balancing the
numerous women in his life including his wife (Marion Cotillard), his
mistress (Penelope Cruz), his film star muse (Nicole Kidman), his
confidant and costume designer (Judi Dench), a young American fashion
journalist (Kate Hudson), the whore from his youth (Stacy "Fergie" Ferguson) and his mother (Sophia Loren).
Having collaborated with Academy winning costume designer Colleen Atwood
on numerous projects including Mission Impossible 3, Sweeney Todd and
Public Enemies, Colleen once again turned to Italian based Belstaff to
help create the strong Italian look for the male characters.
For the energetic and original dance number “Cinema Italiano” performed
by Kate Hudson, one of the highlights of the movie, Belstaff created the
sleek and elegant classic “Nine” suits worn by the male dancers
throughout the routine.
In keeping with Belstaff’s belief of designing stylish yet functional
garments, both the fabric Belstaff sourced locally and the cut of the
suit, were designed to withstand the demanding moves put on it by the
dancers.
Belstaff also designed the “Marcello” suit, a brand new innovative suit
which combines high technique design with an extraordinary elegance,
typical of “dolce vita” style.
The Belstaff “Marcello” suit was inspired by the legendary Marcello
Mastroianni, one of Italy’s most beloved and renowned actors, celebrated
and adored by the film community the world over; a charming man with an
irresistible elegance and stature of timeless hero.
As recognition of their collaboration with the movie, the directors of
Belstaff, Mr Manuele and Michele Malenotti are given a personal “Thank
You” in the credits of the movie.
Nine has been nominated for five Golden Globes including Best Song for
“Cinema Italiano” and is in cinemas across Europe now.
